Adrenal gland

Small glands on top of the kidneys that produce hormones to regulate metabolism, the immune system and stress responses.

In stress, it receives adrenocorticotropic hormone from the pituitary gland to release cortisol.

Its inner structures such as the adrenal medulla release adrenaline and noradrenaline.
