Definition: Adrenal cortex

Adrenal cortex

The biggest and outer part of the adrenal glands. It produces hormones such as cortisol, androgens and aldosterone.

It regulates various functions by releasing these hormones. The first regulates metabolism and blood pressure, the second sexual behaviour and puberty and the last, blood salt content.
